Organization: CLS, Direction Océanographie Spatiale/Département Produits et Services

We have installed here at CLS/ARGOS two Opendap Aggregation server for the diffusion of altimetry data (http://opendap.aviso.oceanobs.com) and oceanographic model data (Mercator model http://opendap.mercator-ocean.fr). The diffusion of our data is done via ftp and Opendap. We also installed some Live Access Server as a web interface for the plot (http://las.aviso.oceanobs.com for example). The reason of these installations of Opendap are multiple : just for the LAS it was a good thing (flexibility on the LAS install) ; in the Mersea project (http://www.mersea.eu.org) it is easy to intercompare the different model (FOAM, MERCATOR, HYCOM, MFS, TOPAZ) with the Opendap technology, like with the LAS MERSEA (http://las.mersea.eu.org) wich provide access to all the model data ; for the end user who use MatLab, IDL or ferret as a data visualisation and analysis, they can access the data without a download of the entire dataset ; and more recently we tested the connection between GIS world (Mapserver) and Opendap, this connection with GDAL work fine and can bring these two world together. We will continue the Opendap diffusion of our data, it's a good experience and we are satisfied by this technology. If you need more details I'll be glad to answer your question.
