Organization: Digital Library for Earth Systems Education

To the ESWG and Richard Ullman:

The Data Access Working Group (DAWG) for the Digital Library for Earth Systems Education has recommended that OPeNDAP be supported in future efforts to supply earth data to education.

I am also the PI on an NSF NSDL The Data Discovoery Toolkit and Foundry, http://www.newmediastudio.org/DataDiscovery/index.html project that has uses the DAP IDL client to create rich data applications for education. We are very pleased with this server-client architecture.

We hope to use OPeNDAP to create a large number of educational applications that access NASA data. We are also looking for proposed XML extentions to the service, as this will allow us to automate our cataloging client effort.

We would enthusiasticly support the promotion of OPeNDAP as a community standard at NASA.
