Notes/Discussion:
- HDF5 RFC discussion – Helen reported that a dozen responses for operational readiness, mostly positive, representing a large number of users and a large volume of data has been received. 1 negative review – if program fails through system crash, then if HDF5 file is open, then partial results already written to HDF5 file may be lost or existing file being written to could be corrupted. Rich did talk to the HDF Group about this comment. It’s in their work plan for next year to correct this by flushing the buffer and saving partial results. General agreement that this is sufficient and that it’s not unusual for partial results not to be saved during system crash.
- SPG accepts the TWG recommendation on HDF5. TWG will write letter to recommend HDF5 as a Recommended Standard.
- No revised Backtrack Tech Note from Ross yet.
- AURA Guidelines – Jingli reported that Cheryl is revising the Guidelines. Expecting it to be completed in a few weeks.
- GeoTIFF – no change in status – nothing is happening there
- Ananth reported on the SPG website – new SPG website is up and running at www.esdswg.org/spg
- Allan reported that the esdswg.gsfc.nasa.gov url (the old url) still works and has old info on it including a pointer to the old SPG website. Need to disable it.
- All SPG members should look at the new SPG website and send comments for additions and changes to Ananth.
- The fall ESDSWG meeting is scheduled for Oct 23-25 in Philadelphia. What should the SPG try to accomplish at the Oct meeting? Potential topics include
- Annual review of process
- Martha’s questions
- Standards for GEOSS
- Interoperability arrangements for GEOSS
- Discussion about Martha’s request to SPG to given an opinion about suitability of the standards being used in the 3 GEO pilots (within GEO Architecture Implementation Task) for use with NASA satellite data and field/insitu data. SPG will form a GEO TWG to study this and write a recommendation to Martha. Volunteers for this TWG include Yonsook, Rich, Ming, Ed Armstrong, Siri Jodha, Ananth, and Allan. There will be a GEO TWG telecon on Thurs June 7 1-3pm ET.
