New and Old Action Items:

• Oct 23 – Siri Jodha will ask Gabriela if she wants to submit an RFC (Tech Note) for Surface Reflectance Terminology.
• Nov 20 – Helen will send revised HDF-EOS5 rec to SPG email list for final review by SPG members
• Dec 3 – all SPG members should review HDF-EOS5 revised rec and voice any objections to the rec.
• Dec 3 – Allan will send revised RFC-002 to SPG.
• Dec 3 – Ananth will update SPG website to reflect changes in the standards process

Notes/Discussion:

• Oct SPG meeting recap – slightly less attendance than previous SPG meetings; process revision discussion constructive, the full meeting notes have been posted.
• Are we doing MMI coordination? No – only coordination with DMAC.
• Process revision – Allan sent email on Nov 9 detailing options – either RFC-002 is fine as is or we can add one paragraph for clarification saying that SPG has more flexibility as to how the reviews are done and the types of reviews needed for each RFC. Should we revise through the Errata process or revise the base document and accept the changes in the document? SPG members agreed that we should change the base document because this RFC is such an important one that explains the Standards Process.
• IOOS DMAC collaboration – the discussion in Philadelphia with the IOOS DMAC reps (Julie Bosch, Ed Hartnett, etc.) were very good. Daniel Jacob is working on a collaboration document. He will discuss this in more detail at the Dec SPG telecon.
• SPG & SIF white paper – We need to outline how the SPG will work with the US GEO and GEOSS SIF. Rich and Yonsook will work with Frank Lindsay on this paper. The audience for this paper is NASA HQ.
• New missions outreach – Jingli – need volunteers to talk to new missions POC to discuss the SPG work. Daniel will talk to the Aquarius mission. Ed Armstrong will talk to the Aquarius/OCO/OSTM teams. Helen will talk to the GPM. Jingli will talk to Glory (GISS) and LDCM. Rich will talk to NPP.
• Need new co-chair for SPG. Glenn Cunningham accepted the nomination. SPG members agreed he was an excellent choice.
• Helen asked whether in the rec to HQ for HDF-EOS5, we should mention that the new NetCDF4 will use HDF5. SPG members agreed that we should NOT mention NetCDF4 in the rec. Helen will send revised rec to SPG. Any objections by SPG members to the rec should be voiced by Dec 3.
• Jingli reported on the AURA TWG. Glenn, Ananth, and Jingli are working to get a draft set of review questions to send to the technical reviewers.
• Any new RFCS to initiate in the next 12 months? * DIF – Rich will talk to Lola about this
