SPG Telecon Notes for Dec. 19, 2007 3pm ET telecon

New and Old Action Items:

  • Oct 23 – Siri Jodha will ask Gabriela if she wants to submit an RFC (Tech Note) for Surface Reflectance Terminology.
  • Jan 23 – Rich will talk to Lola about submitting DIF as candidate standard
  • Jan 23 – Daniel will contact Russ Rew about a potential NetCDF submission to the SPG.
  • Jan 23 – first contact to new missions – by Jingli, Daniel, Ed, Rich, Helen

Notes/Discussion:

  • RFC-002 final resolution – Allan reported that RFC-002 is posted as approved on the website
  • IOOS DMAC collaboration – Daniel reported on the progress – We had telecon with the IOOS DMAC reps (Anne Ball, Julie Bosch, Kurt Schnebele) to discuss collaboration. Key points – we will share reviews by sending copies of reviews via email. SPG member will be on the DMAC steering team. We will attend each other’s meetings. The next IOOS Steering team meeting is expected in May in Silver Springs.
  • New Missions Outreach – recommend starting the initial discussions face to face if at all possible unless you know the target very well already. Jingli sent via email a list of questions and discussion topics to discuss with the new missions staff. Volunteers – Daniel for Aquarius, Helen for GPM (Erich Stocker), Jingli for Glory (GISS) and LDCM, Ed for OCM OCO and Aquarius, and Rich for NPP. Please try to make the first contact by Jan 23rd.
  • Helen reported that she has revised the HDF-EOS5 rec for final comments.
  • Rich has sent the AURA Tech Note review request to the list of expert reviewers.
  • Daniel will contact Russ Rew about a potential netCDF submission to the SPG.
  • Rich will contact Lola about a DIF submission.
  • Rich and Yonsook talked to Frank Lindsay about documenting a potential role for the SPG in supporting NASA’s efforts with the GEOSS SIF and the US GEO. Frank thinks this will be a good idea to write the document.
  • The SPG website has been updated to reflect our revised process which has 3 simultaneous reviews.
  • Yonsook gave a presentation about the SPG at the Fall AGU meeting.
  • The July ESIP Federation meeting is in New Hampshire in July. SPG will have the next face to face meeting there.
