Notes/Discussion:
- July SPG meeting recap – excellent presentations . Would have been good to have Liping talk also. Should we do a roadmap of these standards? Should we do roadmap of emerging standards? Different roadmaps for different communities.
- Daniel gave a recap on the oceans outreach – IOOS DMAC is expected to meet in November sometime. Daniel has organized and participated in 8 telecons with different oceans stakeholders. The regional associations are much more active because they’ve had to collect data. They followed DMAC guidelines. They use NetCDF3.
- Helen is on the DMAC Metadata expert team. She is the liaison between the Metdata ET and SPG. Julie Bosch is working with Anne and Kurt to refine the standards process and put together a UI for users to submit standards. Lola Olsen is also on the Metadata ET.
- Process revision for defacto standards – lighter weight process for heritage/defacto standards. Doesn’t carry as much weight as endorsed standards. Need to have revised process and a criteria for determining when a proposed standard is a defacto standard. A tiger team was commissioned to study this and report back with a strawman. Volunteers for the tiger team – Siri Jodha, Allan, Jingli, Yonsook, Helen, Ming. This tiger team will have its first telecon on Aug 31st at 12pm ET.
- Ted volunteered to send a URL to the FGDC adoption paper to the SPG email list
- RFC status –
- HDF5 is recommended to HQ. No feedback yet from Martha.
- HDF-EOS5 – operational review discussion immediately after this SPG telecon.
- AURA Guidelines – should get this RFC in soon. Peter Leonard said that the SPG should have the document soon. He and others have worked on the document quite a bit to respond to the initial comments. Tech content is about the same. The prose has been improved quite a bit.
- Ross Swick hopes to get the Backtrack RFC done before the Oct SPG meeting
- geoTIFF – Siri Jodha said that the community can’t marshal resources to do this. This is in limbo mode.
- Ed Armstrong will send email to CF community to ask about interest in going through the SPG process.
- Rich will talk to Martha to gain insights into what kinds of discussion we should be having about US GEO.
- October session idea – from Ted – general model of standards lifecycle and comparison of that model with the SPG process.
- Siri Jodha said that the ISO concept is that standards has to be renewed or it is sunset.
- Any comments on usability of the SPG website – send comments to Ananth
