  • May 1 – Rich & Ming will send a recommendation to Kathy Fontaine that RFC-003 be accepted as a Technical Note
  • May 1 – Rich will invite Cheryl Craig to the June SPG meeting to discuss the AURA HDF Guidelines RFC.
  • May 1 – Jingli will invite Dave Cuddy to the June SPG meeting to discuss the potential submission of science processing software guidelines document as a Tech Note
  • May 4 – Yonsook will send email to the SPG email list with info on what days/times the SPG will meet in San Diego during the June 15-16 period.
  • May 9 – Rich will send a recommendation letter to Kathy Fontaine that RFC-004 be accepted as a Community Standard.

Decisions:

  • RFC 004 (DAP 2) is approved as a NASA Earth Science Community Standard
  • SPG will meet on either Wed or Thursday June 15-16 at the ESIP Federation meeting. SPG will not meet on Friday June 17 regardless of what other ESDSWG groups do
  • Proprietary formats – RFCs should be published in pdf. Surveys/questionnaires should be sent out in ascii. Don’t use Word documents if we don’t need to. Should accept comments from the community in any format.

Notes/Discussion:

  • Rich gave status of the DAP 2 review – the TWG members were successful in getting detailed operational review comments from reviewers. These are posted on the SPG website. All SPG members agreed by consensus to recommend endorsement of the RFC-004 as a NASA Earth Science Community Standard. Rich will send the recommendation letter to Kathy in early May.
  • SPG meeting plans – will be either Wed or Thurs on June 15-16 in San Diego at the ESIP Federation meeting. Rich and Yonsook need to check with Carol Meyer and Kathy Fontaine about running the SPG meeting in parallel and whether a room will be available for our meeting. Kathy has expressed some sensitivity to running meetings of ESDS working groups in parallel with the Federation meetings. Will send email to the SPG email list about meeting plans as they firm up.
  • WMS RFC – Jingli finally reached Sam Bacharach. She will follow up with him and see if he can submit the RFC as soon as possible.
  • GeoTIFF RFC – Chris Helm & Siri Jodha reported – Frank W is trying to find help getting it together.
  • Cheryl Craig has been nominated by the AURA group to work with the SPG on the HDF Guidelines RFC. Rich will invite Cheryl to the SPG meeting in June to discuss this.
  • Larry Sugarbaker noted that FGDC’s National Vegetation Classification std is more landcover friendly. He is planning on working to get this standardized through the SPG. He will be the SPG contact point for this future RFC.
  • Siri Jodha noted that he talked with the NSIDC DAAC manager to see if there is any interest in putting forward a Tech Note on data management activities at NSIDC since NSIDC is a data management DAAC. He is interested in putting this forward sometime in the future but not immediately.
