Notes/Discussion:
- Discussed the SPG meeting agenda for the July meeting.
- Allan gave the WMS status – don’t have enough solid reviews. Have extended reviews until Aug 31st. Hoping for more high quality reviews. Allan will talk to Sam to see if he can find someone from the NASA WMS community to encourage additional reviews. Allan will also talk to Jeff dlb to see if he can be the WMS community leader.
- This can be considered a learning experience. We need to vet the community leader better and discuss with the community leader on how he will help get reviews.
- Helen gave the status of the HDF5 and HDF-EOS. We have received 9 review on the 2 RFCs. 3 of them commented on both RFCs. Several people sent in general comment (e.g. I hate/like HDF). RFC editors (Ananth and Jingli) will talk to the RFC authors on how to get additional reviews. Larry Klein is leaving/left his job at ECS. His new job does not have anything to do with EOSDIS. Ananth will talk to Larry about the HDF-EOS RFC and see who can be the new community leader.
- The role of RFC author can be different than the role of community leader. The community leader is the person needing to facilitate reviews being done. Good discussion topic at the July SPG meeting
- No new status on GeoTIFF.
- Helen talked with Michael Goodman. He cannot be the community leader or RFC author for the level 2 precipitation content standard. He does not know who could be.
- Some funding would be very helpful in getting good community leaders. Could be one of the SPG goals.
- Rich discussed the ACCESS telecon that Frank Lindsay held for the new ACCESS projects introduction to the ES DS working groups. Each group leader explained the background of their group.
